Trestickland is located in Dals-Ed municipality, in northwester Dalsland, by the Norwegian border. The hiking trail passes through unusual countryside and a forest that has been left more or less untouched for well over a century.
In the heart of Tresticklan National Park is Orshöjden, its highest point. From here you see nothing but forest in every direction, and it’s almost three kilometres to the nearest road. You can’t go deeper into the forest than this, anywhere in southern Sweden. A suggested route is to take the public road along lake Stora Le’s western shore. About one kilometre north of Rävmarken, take the turnoff in past Rökullehögen farm towards the park entrance by the old Råbocken cottage. This is the only signposted road into the park.
At the Råbocken cottage there is a carpark and information boards. From here, follow the Halleleden trail for nearly one kilometre to the park boundary. In addition to the Halleleden trail to Norway, there is a loop along the shore of Stora Tresticklan lake and past the old homestead Bråtane. A side trail leads up to the highest point in the park, Orshöjden. The word "trestickel" refers to something with three points – a trident. The rift valley landscape gives the area’s largest lake, Stora Tresticklan, its pointed shape.
