A new way to experience the beauty of West Sweden´s pristine coastline, and enjoy the acclaimed seafood of the Taste of West Sweden accredited Salt & Sill restaurant, will be born when the floating hotel opens its doors this September. Built on Klädesholmen, also known as Klädesholmen, herring island, on the far western point of Tjörn, it will include six two-storey buildings constructed on floating pontoons outside the restaurant. Scheduled to open for September, the hotel´s 23 rooms with 48 beds will be ready for the start of the lobster season when people across West Sweden celebrate the riches of the coast´s black gold.

The hotel will also be sympathetic to its marine environment. The pontoons with be secured to steel posts in the seabed and rubble left over from the building work will be used to construct a new reef outside the hotel to benefit fish and shellfish. The underside of the pontoons with not be painted making them a perfect home for shells and mussels. Salt & Sill owners Susanna and Patrick Hermansson say the entire underside of the hotel will act as a huge natural purification plant for the marine environment.

Some improvements are also being made to the restaurant including the construction of a new entrance lobby, the enclosure of the veranda and some of the outdoor seating area to accommodate more guests all year round, and the conversion of the upper floor to a conference area.
